I want to edit a XML instance from persistency that contains a Base64 encoded file(.gif, .jpg) element. I don’t see an example of this input type in the documentation, does the OXF XForms implementation support this data type?

This is a feature that we were planning to add to the XForms engine. Just give us a few days, and we'll send you an updated version of OXF with this feature. Expect to receive something at the end of next week.
Once you have the base64 encoded file in the XForms instance, what were planning to do with it?
