I’m excited to share that *Oxygen XML Web Author 28 is now available*
and it brings a number of useful enhancements that many of you might enjoy.
Here are some of the key features to check out:
* *Powerful AI-assisted authoring with Oxygen AI Positron 8.0 integration*
The AI service in Web Author now supports the latest generation of
models. In addition to OpenAI, you can connect to enterprise-grade
platforms like Google Gemini, Google Vertex AI, AWS Bedrock, or even a
custom REST-based AI service via the new “Custom Connector”.
* *Smarter AI-driven content actions*
You can now ask AI to create new files, generate structured DITA topics
(e.g. Task, Concept, Reference), convert existing content to different
DITA types, or even automatically fix validation issues in AI-generated
content.
* *Improved editing & reviewing experience*
Resizing table columns is easier, and for large DITA tables there’s a
"full-width" toggle mode. You can also add comments via the floating
toolbar when selecting content, which streamlines review workflows.
* *Better support for Markdown & mixed-content workflows*
If you reference Markdown files in a DITA map, you can now view them
directly (auto-converted to DITA) when expanding the map, and copy
content from the visual editor as polished Markdown (with styling,
lists, tables). This should help teams working with mixed documentation
formats.
* *Security, integration & customization upgrades*
The release strengthens enterprise readiness with enhanced
authentication options (including a dedicated connector for Azure
DevOps, and support for OIDC), plus updates under the hood (web server,
UI framework) that improve stability, flexibility, and integration
potential.
