Ah yes, the .NET Services message/bandwidth charge can be quite high. You need
to make sure that if you are transferring large quantities of data you ensure
you establish a direct connection (using the Hybrid mode of the relay
bindings), rather than piping stuff through the service bus.

Subject: RE: Azure Pricing

At a high level, it seems priced towards enterprise applications which I think
is a bit premature. Early adopters will likely be project builders with small
apps, and some of these prices will drive these types of applications away.

At the enterprise level though, I think these are okay. I'd still suggest
making them cheaper to entice take-up; developers (for the most part) are still
going to have to sell the benefits to their business in order to get projects
off the ground and businesses are loathe to take risks with pricing models that
are new to them (especially since the GFC).

My personal gripe is the .Net Services messages charge - that seems pretty
steep to me.

Carl.

Subject: Azure Pricing

As a follow up on my previous show of hands, I was wondering how many people
had taken a close look at the pricing model for Windows Azure. Does anyone have
any opinions on the proposed pricing? Does it suit the way you would charge
for your application/service?

One of the questions that come to mind for me is the choice between Windows
Azure table storage and SQL Azure. Has anyone done the pricing comparison and
prepared to provide a commentary on their findings?

During TechEd I spent a bit of time investigating Azure pricing and have a
rough calculation spreadsheet I put together. I'd be happy to share this with
anyone who'd be prepared to provide feedback on it.
