Things then disolve into explanations of clock hours and small instance hours, which varies based on the instance size. Like it needed to be more complicated trying to get your head around it. So assuming I somehow figure out how to get it deployed onto a extra small instance (I've deployed one web service but didn't leave it up there for fear of being charged the earth), this is what it will cost me to run for a year. 365.25 * 24 = 8766 hours per year @ $0.055 = $482.13. Then I have to somehow guestimate traffic and storage (should be well under 1Gb) It says Small instance is the default so that would cost me $1156.24 per year. (I better not mess up THAT step - how to select the instance size?) . Storage * $0.1649 per GB stored per month * $0.011 per 10,000 storage transactions Under 1Gb will be 12 * 0.1649 = $1.97 for a year. That seems like a brilliant price for a simple website. (I'm talking a hobby project here) SQL Azure * Web Edition * $10.9781 per database up to 1GB per month * $54.89 per database up to 5GB per month I'll want to get my website talking to an SQL Azure database and its not going to store a lot of data. Assuming 1Gb or less then 12 * $10.98 = $131.64 So... the cheapest I seem to be able to get away with is $615.74, minus whatever freebie time/compute my msdn Premium account gives me... One thing I'm not sure of is how to see what the subscription gives me. Windows Azure Platform MSDN Premium is what's shown on my subscriptions page on my account. I can see 4 types of payment options. I'm assuming the msdn premium matches up with the last one which is pay per use. The others seem to give monthly blocks of time/compute. It all seems somewhat complicated. I don't want to accidently end up with a $1100 bill for a simple web site with database. The whole pay for what you use feels like I'm in the back of a taxi. Keeping my eye on the meter for the whole trip and getting out as soon as I can. Any comments or feedback on the above? Have I missed something? (maybe the msdn premium inclusion is very generous. shame I can't find what that means.
