For reasons far beyound my control I am to publish an excel page on a website, allow modification and saving of it on the web server. I will not bother you with what I see to be wrong with this approach, but I'll rather apeal to you to suggest ways of doing this ( think of answers you would give to somone who asks how to shoot themselves in the foot).
