Keep in mind SMS isn't a guaranteed service. Delivery could easily take minutes and sometimes hours or days. I'm not sure about now but I remember in "the old days" there was a good chance it wouldn't get delivered at all. SMS certainly isn't a good idea for time critical applications. Do you really want to be waiting minutes for a gate to open?
