I'm doing the upload via Silverlight because it's a custom form implementation and it all ties in together.
I'll write another stand alone Silverlight app to upload files to a directory, but I'm sure it would be fine. I'm suspecting the default Sharepoint forms generated by MS is uploading files in chunks potentially.
