Hi Anthony,

I built a GPS tracking system for Window Mobile devices a couple of years
ago... back then I prototyped both Virtual Earth, now called Bing Maps and
Google Maps... they were both basically the same and all JavaScript driven
back then... more recently I did the mapping for clang.com.au using the Bing
Maps Silverlight API... way better and I'd highly recommend it.

Commercially speaking... if you plan to make money out of it you'll need an
agreement... I did the basic research a couple of years ago... doesn't look
like Google has changed their agreement much... M$ back then was a bit
confusing as there were different levels of use and different charges... for
example geocoding and reverse-geocoding were different charges to the map,
etc.

Both systems require an API key, unless Google has changed, to track your
usage, at one stage you could get a developer key and you had to point to a
development server while in development but again that might have changed...
sorry not sounding to helpful here... for this most recent project I was
just given a key since we have an existing agreement.

>From my understanding our M$ agreement was made directly through our partner
channel.

Cheers,
Shane
