If this is your generic Windows Server 2008 box (i.e. not the GoDaddy machine), then there is definitely something wrong.
I assume you want anonymous access to the plain HTM, ASPX and web service? (i.e. not authenticated access)? Yes, my plain 2008 box requires I give IUSR and NETWORK SERVICE file system permissions to allow them to work. Otherwise I get an authentication dialog prompt. I do want anonymous access to the plain htm web site and apps like I used to have on my old servers by default. There must be a setting somewhere in IIS or my web site that is totally stuffed to cause this behaviour, but I can't find it. Has the default behaviour changed from 2003 to 2008? I don't recall changing any dangerous defaults this morning. In the meantime I'll waste more time and run hundreds of web searches as usual in search of an answer. Greg
