Actually, tech.ed is a cost neutral event for Microsoft, much the same as most 
other events we run.

I've always wondered by TechEd costs so much, as much as a tropical island 
holiday. MIX and DDD and similar events are maybe $20 to $200, but $1700 at a 
discount!! I'm a one-man business and that's too much even if it's a tax 
deduction. My MSDN subscription already costs $1800 per year.
