Good morning, Peter

Not sure about the codecs. I have regularly updated windows7codecs
(Shark007) for 32-bit (since I use VLC Media Player and IE9 in 32-bit
versions; do not use 64-bit versions of media players) - though my
misbehaving system is 64-bit Ultimate (Win7).

It may well be something like that, though.

I'm reluctant to export a codecs list from the Shark007 utility and try a
compare with someone's working system (like yours), since it is likely to be
an tangled process.

Hi Ian

Not sure what's wrong with your browser.

I have IE9 and the video is displayed just fine.

Maybe you are missing one or more video codecs.

Try http://www.windows7codecs.com/

Subject: [OT] Video not visible in IE9

I don't do web coding, and haven't been able to find an explanation for
this: many web sites won't display inline video with Microsoft Internet
Explorer 9.

Instead, you get something like this -

This example comes from

http://www.wegotserved.com/2011/12/22/verizon-seeks-move-media-server-client
-model-distributed-entertainment/

and the relevant code is -

<p>Check out the video below:<br />

<span style='text-align:center; display: block;'><object width='640'
height='360'><param name='movie'
value='http://www.youtube.com/v/QogfVxtsOP8?version=3&rel=1&fs=1&showsearch=
0&showinfo=1&iv_load_policy=1' /> <param name='allowfullscreen' value='true'
/> <param name='wmode' value='opaque' /> <embed
src='http://www.youtube.com/v/QogfVxtsOP8?version=3&rel=1&fs=1&showsearch=0&;
showinfo=1&iv_load_policy=1' type='application/x-shockwave-flash'
allowfullscreen='true' width='640' height='360' wmode='opaque'></embed>
</object></span></p>

In IE9, I can't find a setting that allows me to see / play the video. Using
Opera v11.1, it shows up as I would have expected (with the Microsoft
browsers).

Apart from changing browser (which I don't want to do), what can I do to
have IE9 display these sites properly? Compatibility mode settings don't fix
it for me.
