Thanks Joseph - DxDiag gives even more complete info than I expected. Also, I installed Kodu on an old Dell Optiplex and it has a nice installer - the XNA Framework installs OK on Windows XP, and the Kodu configuration utility (once Kodu is installed) reports on the graphics card's capabilities (latest Kodu 1.2.88 can use Shader 3.0; my standard Dell Optiplex is OK for Shader 2.0).
All clear now. _____ Ian Thomas Victoria Park, Western Australia From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Joseph Clark Sent: Monday, November 19, 2012 5:23 AM To: ozDotNet Subject: Re: [OT] Game designer (Kodu) prerequisite DxDiag should get you started in the right direction - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DxDiag On Mon, Nov 19, 2012 at 2:11 AM, Ian Thomas <[email protected]> wrote: A series of questions for some of you who are perhaps a few years younger than me: I would like a primary/high school age kid to use the Kodu <http://fuse.microsoft.com/page/kodu> game design system, and it has these prerequisites - . Kodu is a Microsoft game designer - it's not purely for games design, so it says. I need to check out his computer's capabilities first. Is DirectX 9.0c a redistributable, OK on Windows XP? Is there some utility that can be run on his computer to see if it's OK? What CPU/GPU runs Shader Model 2.0? _____ Ian Thomas Victoria Park, Western Australia
