True, most of the spam goes into the spam folder. But it gets about 50-100
a day. My main account gets at most 1 spam email a week and maybe 1 or 2
false positives a week.

If I had to guess I'd say the account registration issues have been fixed
and deleting the account would mean I could never get it back. I don't
really use it much because of the security issue but I'm stubbornly
refusing to let it go :) Maybe some day if I could be bothered I'll have
another go at google to fix it but it's pretty low on my todo list. These
days it's more of an interesting anecdote and a reminder of just how easy
it is to lose all privacy, in this case because of a tiny dot. Many people
don't even notice them. I've occasionally received emails intended for the
other guy but mistakenly sent to me. Probably a good argument to not allow
the two addresses to exist at the same time.
