Reminds me of If on a Winter's Night a Traveller<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/If_on_a_winter's_night_a_traveler> - a book about you trying to read the book "If on a Winter's Night a Traveller" - which actually started out pretty well but wore thin very quickly. I didn't finish it (although that is not what the book predicted!).
