Tricky game this laptop / electronics business. It is more than the device
it is also the aftermarket service.

I personally would not buy a Sony product ever again. I have had Sony
Bravia television, Sony Xperia phone both of which had to be returned for
warranty, both of which took months to honour with prolonged arguments and
eventual referral to consumer affairs.

I suggest you look up on Youtube for things like "disassemble or repair "
... Sony Vaio ... Lenova ... HP etc. and check out various repair forums.

Other complexities. I bought a HP Pavilion a while ago, did not realise
that this particular variant of the breed did not support 64 bit
virtualization hardware acceleration, oh joy - I wanted to have some
VirtualBox test environments. Does the laptop support more than one SSD
drive, how far can you expand the memory, does the laptop suffer
overheating problems ? My laptop overheats playing videos, turns out there
is a known Nvidia graphics chip overheating issue, easily solved by putting
in a better heat sink. The Sony Laptops have poor thermal paste (as do
other brands) which dries up or is poorly applied.

Spend time on research before taking the plunge. Spend the extra dollar if
it is required. Maybe even go down to a laptop repair place and ask them
for advice.

You need to spend that time as being a developer you will have that laptop
on a lot longer that the average person and will suffer overheating issues,
capacitor problems and connector issues (drive to motherboard, USB to
motherboard) and battery life issues. I don't, but maybe simply sell the
thing every 12 months before the warranty runs out and pass it on for
someone else to worry about.
