Folks, a customer using Chrome just notified us that Google are deprecating the NPAPI <http://blog.chromium.org/2013/09/saying-goodbye-to-our-old-friend-npapi.html> and they fear it means that our Silverlight 5 app will no longer run in Chrome. I looked up what the NPAPI was, and it looks like Silverlight is dependent upon it. Google suggest that "streaming" previously done vis SL can be replaced with html media elements, however we are not using SL for streaming, we're using it to provide a rich in-browser application ... so what replaces that? I've seen other posts from people mocking the decision and also claiming that there is no replacement.
So what the hell is the future of web development?! Not more generated html and JavaScript surely? How can anyone deliver a "rich" desktop-like application reliably to web clients? *Greg K*
