A couple of items of general interest from other websites. 1) Legislation on the privacy of health information in the private sector The Federal Govt is planning to introduce legislation on the privacy of health information in the private sector . The issue is so important that it will create guidelines for the use of information about a an individual's health, what it can be used for, when and by whom. Health Information is being stored on computers and may be shared between GPs and hospitals so rules need to be established as to when other commercail enitities like employers and insurance companies can access it. The Federal Govt Privacy Commissioner is seeking feedback from interested organisations and individuals on the "Application of the National Principles for the Fair Handling of Personal Information to Personal Health Information". Submissions closed in June but the issues paper is on the web at: http://privacy.gov.au/news/health.html 2) Web Health Service Health Staff Australia has a website where health service staff can register and access information about jobs in health industry as well as places where they can access eductaion and training. The company intends to develop the site so that it will offer news, discussion groups, as well as advertising vacancies on line. See http://www.healthstaff.com.au At present there is very little on professional development/conferences or education on the site. Rural Health and Wound Care for Aging Tissues are there but not much else. Opportunities here for reaching out to practitioners.
