I am currently undertaking a graduate midwife programme and I am practising
on a postnatal ward where perineal trauma is assessed using the Reeda scale
which I find rather complicated. Is there any Midwives using the
catorgorical scales that Steen and Cooper devised? From what I have read
their scale of assessment looks a lot clearer and simpler than the Reeda
scale.
I am about to put together a presentation suggesting our postnatal ward
changes to the scale suggested by Steen and Cooper but I would like to hear
from other Midwives about how they assess perineal trauma.
What are the most common methods for relieving perineal pain apart from ice
packs,analgesia and air rings?
