Dear Jill,

SNIB'S are the plastic wraps that cover the nappies, at present our Public Hosp has Nappy Wash
the clients are given a choice on what they would like to use,
Cloth Nappies from Nappy Wash @ $7/ day or $20 their stay 2 snibs are given with this deal.and the Hospital Kiosk sells more if needed or they can buy them at chemists.
OR They can use their own nappies either cloth or disposable but they must be taken away from the hospital for their disposal or washing which ever they choose.
Our clientelle is a real mix but very few to no private women, and they are informed early in their pregnancy when they book in.
In delivery we (midwife) asks her what she is using if it's Nappy Wash we stick one of their stickers on a form which they also sign this gives us permission to release their name to the company. On transfer to the ward this slip is posted in a box in the ward. ( thats all we have to do with it)

I hope this helps
Janet

A question for the listeners

Have recently reverted back to the use of cloth nappies at my hospital for several reasons, large stock of nappies, financial and environmental cost, and we also felt that we should be role modelling within the community. We currently have a woman in the ward who had her last baby at the Royal Women's in Melbourne where she was issued with 2-3 of these T-shaped plastics which tied at either side of the nappy and were suitable to be washed and dried with a towel on a daily basis.
In the past we have not used these items or anything over the nappies for that matter. We would like to give them a try otherwise our linen consumption will be increasing with the wet baby clothes, wraps and sheets etc.

My question is - what do you use and where do you get them from?

Thanking you in anticipation

Jill Banks
