the ACT Government to include pictures of foetuses

THE FINANCIAL REVIEW
Alison Kahler p25 Health funds wedded to old-fashioned ways.
Article discusses how the private health insurance
industry has failed to modernise its marketing,
                       transitional functionalities and service delivery
strategies so reducing its attractiveness to
consumers and endangering the Federal Governments
efforts to prop up the sector. (HM130701)

Helen Meredith p31 Health sector gets a boost with new information

launched the Health IT Information Service. The
scheme will act as a clearing house for
information on healthy technology products and
                       services nationwide. (HM130702)

THE SYDNEY MORNING HERALD
Wendy Bacon and p1 Deadly delays in the war on legionnaires. The
Tracy Palmer New South Wales Health Department has dropped
                       improvements to air conditioning regulations,
designed to combat legionnaires disease, despite
a report by international expert Clive Broadbent
that found the current code of practice was out -
                       of-date, misleading, ambiguous and confusing.

Judith Whelan p1 Doctors rebel over hospital demands to cut deeper.
Doctors at the Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney
yesterday threatened industrial action over the
administrations call for up to $9 million in
spending cuts to be submitted by resident
clinicians. Clinical director of medicine John
Dwyer said that department heads refused to
recommend cuts, adding that the $30 million
already cut from the hospitals budget was enough.

Judith Whelan p6 Hospital unable to cope as it bleeds from fiscal
cuts. Prince of Wales Hospital clinical surgery
director Robert Farnsworth has revealed that since
1995 the hospital has overrun its budget by
approximately $9 million with the shortfall being
attempted to be made up through the closure of 250
beds and the shedding of 270 staff. (HM130705)

THE AGE
Mary-Anne Toy pA1 Surgery target of union action. Industrial action
by health unions over two separate pay and
superannuation disputes have seen most elective
surgery at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, Monash
Medical Centre, Frankston Hospital and the Austin
and Repatriation Medical Centre cancelled or
                       scaled back. (HM130706)

Brendan pA2 Globalisation brings further world injustice. A
Nicholson United Nations report on globalisation and human
development has ranked Australia as the seventh
best country in which to live, above the United
Kingdom, Switzerland and France. The report,
                       however, condemned Australias, and other
countries, failure to share the wealth with
poorer nations, suggesting that globalisation had
led to a neglect of the needs of those not served
by the international capitalist market. (HM130707)

Darren Gray pA7 The cost of pain hurts the nations economy. A
report released yesterday called acute pain
management: Scientific evidence has revealed that
unrelieved pain costs the economy more than $10
billion annually. The report also found that
current pain relieving techniques, applicable to
95 per cent of cases after surgery, were only
being used in 50 per cent of cases. (HM130708)

next two years at the Imperial College in London
investigating possible vaccines for malaria, the
worlds most widespread fatal disease. (HM130709)

                 p5 Hospital means-testing unfair, inefficient.
                       Australian Health Care Association national
director Mark Cormack has labelled a proposal to
                       means-test public hospital patients a quick-fix
solution and called for funding arrangements and
implement programs to be reassessed. (HM130710)

THE WEST AUSTRALIAN
Nick Miller p4 Theyre still happy little Aussie mites. A new
survey conducted by the Kids Help Line has found
that childrens main past times remain sports and
outdoor activities with major sources of worry
being related to school and family. The survey
also found the great majority of children aged up
to 15 live in stable and caring homes. (HM130711)

Melissa Stevens p11 Hanged man had history. The Perth Coroners
Court heard yesterday that deceased inmate
Christopher Andrew De Gois, found hanged in his
cell on November 25, 1997 at Casuarina Prison, had
a long history of self-harm and suicide attempts.
De Gois family has accused the prison authorities
of negligence leading to the mans death.

prenatal statistics unit researcher Paul Lancaster
has indicated the unit will later this year
critically examine the claim that folate
consumption by pregnant women reduces birth
defects such as spina bifida. (HM130713)

p3 Perfume, heavy metals in breast milk. A study
commissioned by the World Wide Fund for Nature and
compiled by UK Health and Safety has found that
babies across the world are being exposed to high
levels of dangerous pollutants in breast milk.
However, the report found that breastfeeding was
still the healthiest option for babies. (HM130714)

establish advice clinics in Adelaide would be
tantamount to legalising the practice. Keowns
research has revealed widespread abuse in
                       Hollands regulated euthanasia system. (HM130716)

research fellow Gillian Lockwood has developed a
blood test that effectively reveals the remaining
time on a womans biological clock by estimating
the shelf life of eggs in ovaries and levels of
