3RN 1800 14/7 Blair announces nurse revamp. UK Prime Minister
Tony Blair announced this week a complete revamp
of the nursing system, with senior nurses to
receive massive pay rises and cadets to be
introduced at the bottom level. The nurse shortage
is also a problem in Australia, with the pressure
of under-funded, under-paid and overworked nurses
quitting the system. Intvs: Mary Kiarella,
spokesperson Nursing, Midwifery and Health Dept of
the University of Technology; Belinda Morrison,
                       spokesperson Vic Nursing Federation. (Dur:04:54)

3AK 1500 14/7 Office making workers sick. Current research
claims the electro magnetic fields generated by
computers are making office workers ill with sick
building syndrome, which produces symptoms such
as fatigue and depression. (Dur:04:06) (HM150729)

2BL 0900 14/7 Hospital problems stem from funding. As the
hospital crisis continues, with Royal North Shore
claiming they have had to turn away intensive care
patients, AMA State President Kerryn Phelps says
it reflects expressions of anger and frustration
at the system which have been brewing for some
time, blaming recent requests to further slash
budgets as having urged the outcry. Phelps claims
there is no doubt that patient care is suffering
and that solutions must transcend political
boundaries because they stem from a dysfunctional
funding system, suggesting a larger percentage of
the gross domestic product be allocated to the
                       health sector. (Dur:09:00) (HM150730)
