Hi Joy,
I suffered from CFS for seven years and spent
four years as President/on the management committee of the ME/CFS Society of
NSW. CFS is presented in a variety of ways so it is always difficult to
have a pathological process at hand to offer explainations.
There are a group of individuals with CFS like
myself that have a hyperactive immune system response in relation to CFS and
as a result react to pregnancy in a similar fashion as someone with auto
immune diseases ie much improved during pregnancy but immediately post partum
the symptoms return to pre-pregnancy state. Also in my own case the disease
has run its course(indicating an viral causative influence) and after seven
years my health has improved quite dramatically.
So there are two possible explainations for you
to consider. Certainly with an acute onset with soeone under 25yrs the
prognosis is good with an average two year timeframe for the illness.
Hope this helps. Cheers, Irene Coonan,
Corporate Services Manager NSW Midwives
Association.
