I work in a remote area as a Community Health Nurse.  Obviously only part
of my role is as a Midwife.  Small communities (as many are in remote
Australia) are unable to support a Midwife unless she/he was travelling
between communities. And then one would need the local community nurse to
also be a Midwife in case those skills were required while the Midwife was
several hundred kilometres away.
I support Direct Entry Midwifery.  But I also think there may be room for
RNs to also become Midwives.
