Dear Joy,
Indeed the situation that this lady finds is intolerable and
inappropriate, as is so much of the structure of health care in
Australia. Why be so reserved about naming the hospital though? The
witch hunt is winning if it silences our voices as midwives.
Be reminded of the wonderful person you are and the role that you
fulfill. She has sought out your care not been directed or forced but
sought the most appropriate care with a professional willing and able
to provide the most appropriate form of care-care that is associated
with better outcomes than the one the hospital dictates.
Depending on the clients wishes with a nod to her emotional and
spiritual integrity this could be a moment of change of public
challange and disclosure.
Whatever please pass on our respect to your client and our support for
you however you decide to act. If we can help klet us know!!
Things will change women and us as midwives will demand it the power is
through information and information sharing.
Joy We are with women and with each other.
Yours annoyed yet motivated like Yourself!!!
Nigel and Cathy.
