Dear Heather
The Mater Epidemiology unit are doing an evidence based project on GBS
in term babies (unknown - I think because they do not sceen but use risk
factors to determine who to treat). Vicki Flenady cna be contacted on
07 38401591 or James King on 07 38401583.

I have some concerns about this whole issue because I see much of the
problem comes about because of VE's - after all mico-organisms can't
walk and they are trasmitted from the lower reporductive tract to infect
the baby through VE's (no VE's in labour! - gosh how could we
effectviely use the partogram?) Margie Duff in NZ is dong her PhD on a
behavioural assessment tool which may in the future help midwives
asssess a woman's progress in labour without doing VE's - sounds like
the way to go to me but I am digressing.
Hope this helps.
Regards Jenny
