Dear Di and all,

Please, please, please do not recommend the use of paw paw ointment or any other loction or potion for gracked or damaged nipples.  They just don't work!

I know, there will be someone out there that will say 'It was the only thing that helped'.  I don't have it on hand, but research has shown that the only thing that helps is correct attachment, use of hind milk (even this is controversial) and time and patients.

Paw paw ointment and all of the other potions on the market are not sterile and does anyone know the techniques used in manufacture? mmmmmmm.  Is anyone sure of the safety aspects, allergies to mum and baby?  Possible placebo effect etc.

I usually give mum all the information I have on using creams etc.  and emphasis the main cause and cure - correct attachment, and that she doesn't have to rely on anything else but support and correct and hopefully evidenced based information.

If mum still insists on using a cream etc. that is then her choice of course.
