There really is no debate about Women/Men being ACMI members.  This discussion has been going on for years, as far back as the 1980's that I can remember.  We are at a time in history pertinent to women/families and midwives working together.  This is the right time, there is no need to re-invent the wheel the precedent has been set with NZCOM.  Of course there will be teething problems, the NZCOM made a good job of it because they believed in the right of women/families being together in a Partnership and because they had very strong leadership.  Midwives will be better supported and cared and conversely if we all work together in the 'Partnership' we pay lip service to at present.

We should 'Bite the Bullet' right now, not really a hard decision, just a wise one.  I wonder why some of us still fearful of the advancement of women.  We do not need to protect ourselves from the very people we care for.  Include them to make midwifery a better and stronger profession.
