Dear list
What a wealth of life we share on this list, I read often , and only
sometimes write. W e are going through some tough times personally and
professionally at the moment with midwifery at John Hunter , but this pales
when you read about Heather's story and Hannah's.What strength.

To touch on the issue of including consumers -- working with women in the
true sense, hearing what they want. We need to stand beside them work, in
partner ship. We have just set up a consumer group, the team midwifery
consumer group and they have just been wonderful, writing letters , phoning,
making appointments to see management, seeing politicians, supporting each
other and the midwives, the group will continue to work with us to keep the
light burning and get team midwifery back. When setting up the group I had
concerns about loss of control, others telling us as midwives what to do,
but realised that for direction of the service we needed the customers
input a voice to add to ours to achieve change, it then became an exciting
challenge to get the group up and running. I would encourage consumer
participation , lets get on with the job of being with/beside women.
