Soranus (AD98-138) wrote the first textbook for midwives. She describes a midwife: "She should have given birth herself and not be to young. She should be literate, industrious, have a good memory, be patient". I would not be the midwife I am without having had my own children and nursing time. They have matured me quickly. I have many friends who have been midwives for many years and have not had children - they are fantastic midwives - so I am not saying to be a midwive you have to had children. But I am certainly agreeing with many of you...To be a midwive there needs to be a good level of maturity involved - life experience. I truely advocate the nursing studies before midwifery training. It gives life and nursing experience - the maturity to handle what midwifery requires. I will get off my soap box now... Sarah -- This mailing list is sponsored by ACE Graphics.
