Did you have a written birth plan? Did your carer/hospital provide
you with the opportunity to make one? You could make a case out of
inadequate birth information being given to you during your pregnancy.
You should take your case to a good lawyer to help you word your next
letter. There is free legal aid in each state and territory. Perhaps
join a local consumer group to help you find a lawyer that deals with
medical complaints. Maternity Alliance, CEA, AMALG would be a start.
Write a non-emotive letter to your local state member of parliament.
Take it to the Minister for Health if need-be or the omnsbudsman. But
first tell the hospital management that you will be taking your
dissatisfaction further if you don't receive an apology from the
carers concerned.
Give them the opportunity to organise a round-table conference with
you and your partner.
You may eventually end up as the consumer representative on your area
health board and help them develop a good customer-focus program
within their maternity services!
