Hi Virginia,

Here are the contact details for the meeting. Everyone shoud make sure they
send copies of letters, emails etc to these people, as it is vital that we
get this issue onto the agenda for the meeting of the Australian Health
Ministers Advisory Council which is on August 1.

From the bureaucratic angle (the people who do the actual work), the
person to contact is:

Penny Gregory (sorry I had her name wrong before)
CEO
ACT Department of Health, Housing and Community Care
GPO Box 825
Canberra City ACT 2601
Fax: 02 6205 0830
email: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

To make sure the Ministers themselves hear about it, write requesting a
listing on the agenda to:

Michael Moore
ACT Minister for Health - sorry don't have his email address available -
can anyone help here?

Might also be worthwhile writing to the Ministers for Health in each State.

I have just spoken to Fiona Tito - all the lobbying is paying off - she's
been contacted by a number Of Labor politicians seeking more information as
a result of the pressure they are under. They are particularly interested
in knowing about the costs involved in home births, compared to hospitals,
birth centres, and of course, obstetric care. If you have any verifiable
figures on this it will be worthwhile including them in your letters etc.
It will be the economics of midwifery care that is the biggest selling
point, I think.

Good luck!

Andrea
