I thought similarly with my own two babies. I held them over the shoulder
and comforted them whilst they did the guthries (& SBR's) then soon as it
was over, sat and BF them. Simple pyschology I guess, but I prefered to
reward them after the pain, not during it. This being said, if the Mum is
insistent on the guthries being done while feeding, no problem, I'll do it
that way.

I have never seen an injection given whilst the bub was feeding though.
Can't say i have ever considered doing it that way in my own practice.

Mind you, after having one incident when I was a mid student when the Mum
had a shocking phobia of needles but really wanted to comfort her baby, I am
very careful that they are not going to pass out. We started to do the
guthries, didn't show her the needle, and she didn't watch the procedure,
but the baby crying just enough to cause her to get very light-headed! I've
come to the conclusion that I must be a mean Mum, it never worried me at
all?
