Would someone be kind enough to tell me what 'The Red
Tent' is all about?
Thank you,
Robin.
the red tent tells about the time of Abraham, his sonn
Jacob, his wives,(all sisters, as was the custom) their sons and their
daughters.
the women's menses are syncronised to the new moon and
during that time the women gather in the red tent, a sacred
place,
to tell their stories, eat, sing and nurture each
other...........
they celebrate the menarche of their daughters and the
birth of each baby with such grace and beauty.
the art of midwifery is passed on through the
generations to the one who, it is believed, has the gift.
the birth stories are wonderful, and some are
tragic.
the clearly defined roles of women and men are, to me,
enviable.
the women all support each other in such a way, as to
put shame to our way of life today.......
it a rich, colourful tale of a time long
ago..........when birth and death were honoured.
