Hi

Have you heard of the forthcoming Parenting Conference at Melbourne Uni in Nov? the brochure says, The conference  will be relevant to practitioners, academics and people working with families who have children from BIRTH to late adolescence.
There are lots of eminent (male) professors (whom you can bet have never actually "parented" , let alone birthed or breastfed a real child -this would be "wife work" while they gained their credentials) and the only baby "experts" featured on the brochure are under

"presentations of new initiatives and resources and will include :(among others to do with older children ie Jesuit Social Services -men and family relationships and  a booklet that explores resilience etc) -Tweddle Child and family Health Service, a book to assist families understand and manage their baby or young child's sleeping difficulties".

This book is a very, very sad way to deal with very young babies.

Anyone got any suggestions? any displays?? re birth , bonding, breastfeeding -which of course would minimise the need for so many "experts" .

My book Parenting By Heart will be there for sale -but at $300 , I wont be.

I have only just got the info myself and I guess it is late to protest but perhaps some pressure is due as the conf is for Parent educators.

the address on the leaflet is:
The Conference Secretariat Parenting Conference, PO BOX 1141 Collinwood, Vic, 3066.
