Interestingly, since working here in the USA in post partum I've discovered that any newborn whose mother is suspected of using illicit drugs in pregnancy will have a meconium sample taken. If it comes back positive for illicit drugs (or there byproducts I expect) that baby can be removed from the mother immediately.
