To Robert McClelland MP Dear Honorable Member for Barton Now is the time for all politicians to reaffirm their committment to increased access to midwifery models of care for all Australian women as recommended by the NH&MRC. Women want the right to choose safe, cost effective maternity programs that include choice of birth venue. I would therefore like to invite you and your family to a FAMILY PICNIC being held to mark the end of Homebirth Awareness week. The picnic will take place in PARRAMATTA PARK on Saturday 27th October between the hours of 10am and 3pm. It is proudly sponsored by Homebirth Access Sydney (HAS) and the Australian Society of Independent Midwives (ASIM). A large crowd is expected that would provide you with a wonderful opportunity to mingle with families and put Labor's policies related to improving Australian maternity services by providing access to more midwifery models of care. I understand that the Hon.Carmen Lawrence is attending a similar Homebirth Awareness Week picnic to be held in Geelong, Victoria. As the member for Freemantle and supporter of the Freemantle Community Midwifery Program, Carmen and other Labor MPs have pledged their support for the replication of similar Community Midwifery Programs across the country is Labor wins the election. Hopefully Labor MPs in NSW will pledge similar support during Homebirth Awareness Week. Please RSVP your intentions as we will be briefing the press about this event in the near future.
