Were I work, the MO's like the platelets to be above 50 in labour.
i PLatelet counts are done when women arrives to birth centre and if lower than 50, the woman is then transferred to Delivery Suite and has a managed third stage (ie cannula and IV Syno with birth of placenta)

All other women with PLT counts  >50 are treated as normal.
Even women who have otherwise normal PLT counts prior to prenancy can drop them during pregnancy. Its possibly autoimmune response but who knows.
I would see about 1 client per month with PLT count of around 100.

What about others?

I'm not sure, but I thought it was only kids that got the typical purpuric rash from the low PLT's not adults?

cheers,
Sheryl
