My friend remains close to her mum, but has 'grown up' and realised she has to be her own woman.
Don’t we all? I am reading ‘My Mother, My Self’ (Nancy Friday) at the moment – it was written in the ‘70’s, but still seems so relevant. I think we all come to the realization of the impact our Mothers have had on our psyches eventually, and that initiates the final personal growth that separates us from her (sometimes overpowering) influence. For some the realization comes early, others discover it late in their lives. I highly recommend this book to ALL women – I discovered it in a second-hand shop, so it’s probably out of print, though.

Too many Gods;
so many creeds,
Too many paths
that wind and
wind,
When just the art
of being kind
Is all the sad
world needs...
