I love the idea of passing birth experience on to the next generation. Both
sadly and joyfully my parents have learnt more about birth from my two
homebirths than they could ever have imagined. My mum was induced for her
first three babies, she was told the bones of the baby would fuse if it
stayed in there too long and not be able to come out. I was her last baby
and only spontaneous birth. With the practice at the time of keeping baby
in the nursery she only managed to breastfeed her middle 2 babies. So sadly
her birth experiences could not be a guide for me. My first baby was
induced because I was 40+5 weeks, private obstetric care, otherwise normal
vaginal birth. My next to babies were born at home, 40 weeks and then 40+5
weeks, both with the same private midwife, normal vaginal water births. My
first 2 breastfed for 18+ months and I am bresatfeeding my 10 day old. My
situation has improved upon my mothers, mostly I have to say due to the
excellent care of my midwife. I also have become well informed on birth
issues, all of which helps achieve the type of birth you want and select
who can best provide that experience.My babies are all boys and obviously
will not give birth, but I'm making damn sure that their experience and
knowledge of birth will help them when they might father a child. My oldest
at 31/2 years is already quite the expert.
