DearJan,  NO we don't have any insurance for private clients.  I am just informing them that I don't have it.  The Community Program officers have had someone searching searching searching.  All good leads fizzled out.  We don't even have any dodgy companies willing to take it on. (which I wouldn't accept anyway). The Program is covered by the State Government under an employment contract 3 mths at a time.  Very uncertain for us, but it keeps the Program going.  My personal opinion is that if women insist on me having insurance (they never did before) then they don't really want the services I offer, the underlying principle of which is that their health care is a shared responsibility.  How many years have you had insurance for?
The situation in W.A. is so ridiculous at the moment that several good sized suburban hospital maternity units are turning women away because there is no anaesthetist on the hospital roster.  They don't want to be on call all the time because they don't get paid for it and it makes them too tired for the next day (hey don't complain about being on call for private practice tho... funny that.).  Women have had to travel up to one hr to KEMH (and one had her baby in the carpark).
I truly believe that insurance in most walks of life is becoming irrelevant.  If it costs the earth to insure something, why bother? Its like emotional blackmail.  Anyuway thats my thoughts on this lovely morning in Perth.  Cheers, Mary Murphy
