I did - and I'm more educated now. I had never actually heard much about
this 'Babywise', but someone who I have a lot of time for actually
recommended it to me (naturally I was a second time mother who put her nose
in the air and never bought the book at all) - but I think I'll have to
question her about some things???

I think it comes down to an issue of controlling how and when things happen;
and babies (and children) can be quite literally controlled by our actions
as adults - put them in the cot, playpen, car set etc, left to cry...

..I did the controlled crying (my own version and adaptions to Tweddle), but
it was a disaster with my first child, and has been wonderful with my second
son who I have just started about a fortnight ago at nearly 9 months. Each
child is individual, but being aware of these rigid sleep schools (I didn't
realize you 'took' your baby there at only weeks old) can only make us
better midwives to listen to woman's grievances - sleep deprivation, poor
family support, possible BF difficulties etc - and then suggest how to cope
with these difficulties. It's amazing how many Aussie women don't want to
put their young babies in bed with them, and also how many new parents don't
recognize what a sleepy young, young baby acts like and the sleep signs that
can give you hints to get them ready for sleep.

Oh well, I've had my huff and puff. The 'hook on the wall' time has passed,
and it's time to r-e-l-a-x!

Thanks Pinky for the information and education.

Cheryl
