Hi Megan I pronounce the 'mai' the same as 'my', but I suppose others have different pronunciations.
'Maia' was a fertility goddess, and the month of May was named after her - springtime, fertility &c in the Northern hemisphere. I wasn't thinking of scrabble when I said we need to learn the word and use it!
