This is what amazes me about the system in Australia- There have been numerous reports conducted and submitted - beginning with the Shearman report in 1989- which all ask for a marginalized role for the obstetrician- with a call for more shared care and more projects like the Team Midwifery Project.  In 1999 there was a Senate Inquiry (which I am sure you all remember) into birthing procedures, where a lot of submissions were calling for the same thing.  It seems that all of the recommendations put forth are largely ignored or implemented to varying degrees without enough resources put behind them.  I wonder what it will take for proper resources to be put behind Projects such as the one we have been discussing.
