So in England, if "classes" are w/ a CBE on behalf of
the National Childbirth Trust, are the classes & CBE
financially sponsored by the NCT so that the classes
are either free or of low cost to the woman?
Generally speaking "independant" classes in the UK are not free. Where I taught in southern England, my NCT classes cost each couple 75 pounds (around $185) for a 9 week (18 hour course).
As CBE's we were paid by the NCT for our teaching (although not for our other voluntary work within the NCT, such as fundraising, working on statutory maternity services committee's etc.). Clients paid the NCT for the classes. If couples could not afford to pay then the NCT would subsidise, in part or full, the cost of the class - the NCT is a charity. The NCT also paid for CBE's to continuosly update their professional skills e.g. by attending Study Days, and paid a 50% contribution towards training to be a CBE with the University of Luton.
