People around Melbourne seem happy to hire out birth tubs of various shapes and sizes, and wash the liners between uses.�� I don�t know if we ought to be taking more precautions to prevent cross infection.I�m not aware of problems with infection and waterbirth in this area.Annie Sprague is doing a Masters thesis on waterbirth.

 

Thismorning I attended a homebirth/ waterbirth.The tub is a structure made with a corrugated outer frame that is made into a circle, with a thick pool liner draped over it.Round pools are difficult to reach into the middle from the edge, and in this case I took off my socks, rolled up my pants, and stepped in to catch the baby, who happened to weigh 5.5 kilos, and needed a bit of help getting his big shoulders out.I wear procedure gloves.
