Hi I am really interested in your thesis. I understand about wanting peer reviewed articles for a literature review especially if it is for a PhD but if you are too strict I think you may have a weeny literature review. There isn't very much research on this. Funding bodies aren't overly concerned about knowing why women want things. Probably not very interested in what women think at all. Literature concerned with what women want is often published in 'consumer-type' publications. Not peer reviewed but good rich stuff straight from women's hearts and not contaminated by researchers and academia!
My colleague and I are just about finished with the second evaluation of the Community Midwives Program in Perth. We asked the women (over 400) to tell us why they wanted a home birth or a hospital birth. I can't say much cause it isn't published yet and it belongs to the CMP. I will say that most women want home birth cause a. they want to be at home. b. They don't want intervention and c. at home they will have more control. Incidentally, the ones having a hospital birth did so cause they weren't eligible for a home birth and for 'safety' reasons. Have fun and please tell us what you are finding Carol Carol Thorogood Visiting Midwifery Scholar School of Nursing and Midwifery Flinders University, Adelaide, 5001 Telephone: 08 8201 3924 Fax: 08 8201 3410 -- This mailing list is sponsored by ACE Graphics.
