Hi all,
the pregnancies I breastfed through were the ones I
didnt threaten to miscarry - not sure any cause or effect. During 4th preg,
three year old weaned to one breast -said "the other one is the baby's" -the
boob she refused produced colostrum during preg while "her booby" continued
producing milk.
Both breasts went through colostral phase after
birth -have a hilarious photo of bub and three year old nursing - pregnancy
wasnt difficult -early baby days I often got a bit light headed - "forgetting"
to eat enough -blood sugar a bit low. Ditto Vicki about toddler not running riot
during breastfeeds and sibling problems non existent -although sometimes I felt
like a piece of meet with two puppies crawling all over me -it wasnt always fun
in the very early stages when toddler nursed each time baby nursed, then nursed
by herself after baby - I needed to learn to "surrender" all over again ( I tend
to be a bit "hyperactive" and this was a bit of a difficulty for me at times,at
first, even when I wasnt tandem nursing). The baby was born big and grew like a
botticelli cherub -I think she lived on hindmilk. She certailny wasnt deprived of
nutrients!
Both girls are great mates even now at 18 and just
22.
In fact the older one was helping a uni mate
collate some questionaires for a psych (grad dip) paper on siblings and was
quite shocked at some of the responses -how siblings perceived they had been
treated differently/ favouritism/ sibling rivalry - it was quite foreign to her
that people could have such feelings.
So while its not everyones "drink of milk" perhaps
all those "booby days and nights' did have lastng effects. Both girls weaned
when they were ready at similar ages so seeing the baby nurse doesnt mean
weaning will take longer than it would have otherwise.
