A HUGE congratulations to Professor Gus Dekker and the team at Lylle Mac in SA on the wonderful presentation on the Mother Carer program held at Parliament House today.

The current outcomes give great promise to a program that will benefit birthing women and families in our community.

We are so lucky to have such a wonderful man as Gus Dekker.  His very tactful (and entertaining) presentation focused on the all points highlighted by the all too vocal critic from 6 months ago.  BTW, the 'G' was left out of the "Dr" pic!

The heart felt recommendation from the wonderfully brave mother was justification enough of the validity of this program.  I think her response made the call for a randomised blind trial as futile and pointless.

It never ceases to amaze me that critics of women focused care always want to have it 'proven' by means of trials...when in fact they continue to ignore the evidence best practice of maternity care in this current environment; that is the medical model of control.  Opps, I meant to say 'care'.

Again, thanks for the report on the success of the Mother Carer program and let's hope that the expansion of this program will happen swiftly and without needless bureaucratic red tape!  Also, thanks to Frances Bedford for facilitating the day!  A initiative of this type is the perfect 'desert' to the NMAP menu!
cheers
