To explain this I can only say what she has relayed to me -
they thought the head was on show and she had been pushing and pushing
when a second membrane burst and what 'they' had thought was the babies
head was a huge bulb of fluid. The head was still right up there
and not on show at all. This was when the GP id the internal and
said - "It wont fit!" She was at this stage saying "shoot me
NOW! i just want to die."
She was in labour for 26 hours before the c/s
Trying to make sense of 2nd/3rd hand information is
very difficult. I just want to comment on something this reminds
me of... not trying to say it wasn't CPD. I have had four
cases over a number of years(all multips) where the intact
membranes held the head up in the pelvis.. Trying to make the decision
to rupture the membranes and risk a prolapsed cord was difficult.
I took two to hospital and did an ARM at home(very carefully) for the
other two. When the membranes were ruptured the baby came down and
then the head was able to be born.. after varying times of
pushing. not too long in either case. No matter what we did
before the ARM, the head just wouldn't descend despite full dilation for
some time. Not only would it not descend, but it wouldn't centre
either, the head(s) just seemed to rest on the supra pubic bone. The
cases I took to hospital were similar outcomes. MM
