I personally am terribly reluctant to make much comment - but in this
instance feel compelled
Presenting a united front is important, but the reality appears to be
that we have had different and at times passionate and very dynamic
actions being taken by various groups involved with the current PI
crisis. Whilst we are witnessing the DEMISE of many IPM's practices,
careers and incomes along with many women's rights to birth choices, I
believe we have seen very little cohesive strategies or actions.
ACMI has been deafening with its silence - although I know not activity
- IPM's are struggling to achieve resolution through ASIM (Australian
Society of Independent Midwives) in conjunction with Maternity Coalition
and Homebirth Australia. But it appears that not all bodies seem to
have achieved the cohesive direction that truly would mean a united
front that could only benefit all in achieving the right gains.
Secondly, I do believe it is important for individuals to be able to air
their opinion in a safe and protected environment - should someone have
a beef with an individual take it up individually - NOT in this very
very public arena (whether it is meant to or not it can be seen as a
cheap shot)
To true unity in birth

Dear Andrea,

Thanks for this - to suggest that I am devastated by this article is a
complete understatement, and Robyn is not even a member!!

Anyway those are the breaks - we are still continuing to move forward
with the insurance and we had a big meeting a couple of weeks ago with
the universities, nurses boards etc of Vic and SA

Will keep you posted - (please do not distribute this email)

Cheers

Vanessa
